Move work to a new project location, reconnect a missing folder, or restore Studio from a backup.
Before you start #
Make a verified backup. Write down the current profile location, project locations, ComfyUI folder, and engine URL.
Move media into a new project root #
Studio cannot currently point an existing Project at a different location from the Projects page. Copying its folder does not make the original Project follow the copy.
Use a new project when the root must change:
- Stop generation and close active viewers for the old project.
- Keep the old Project folder intact and verify its backup.
- Add the destination project location in Settings.
- Open Projects, create a new Project, and choose the destination during creation.
- Confirm the new Project’s input, output, and masks folders.
- Copy the media you want to keep into the corresponding folders of the new project.
- Run Import existing media or Gallery resync so Studio indexes the copied files.
- Confirm the media in Gallery, then generate a small result into the new project.
- Archive the old Project only after checking the new result and copied media. Remove the old files only when the backup is also verified.
The new Project is separate in Studio. Creating it does not carry over the old Project’s generation history, Canvases, or other linked records.
Preserve an existing project record #
If you must preserve the existing Project and everything linked to it, restore its folder at the path Studio already records. The current app has no supported way to change an existing Project’s location. Do not hand-edit profile.db or project configuration to force a move; restore the original path or recover the verified profile and storage backup together.
Move a profile #
Use Export Profile or a consistent database backup. On the destination, install the compatible Studio version, restore the profile, reconnect project locations, then reconnect ComfyUI and revalidate Pipes.
Recover missing Gallery media #
| What you find | What to do |
|---|---|
| File exists under a configured Project location | Run Import existing media or Gallery resync |
| Project location is unavailable | Restore the mount or reconnect the path |
| File moved outside Studio | Return it through a supported project path |
| Database integrity fails | Preserve the original and restore a verified profile backup |
| Generation history exists but media is gone | Restore Project media from its backup |
